Family Events

Whether it be a “hatching, matching or despatching” we have already catered for many christenings, engagement and wedding parties at The Earl Spencer. We have also helped several people organise a wake for a funeral, often a very good time to take the pressure off yourself and let the professionals take care of the catering arrangements.

We have also found the function room is very often used for special wedding anniversaries. So whether it be your :

anniversary coming up, why not save all the fuss and bother of self-catering at home and let us do the work for you.

However, the most popular event the room is generally used for is that special birthday party...the ones that end in a zero...30ths, 40ths and 50ths... and sometimes even 60ths, 70ths and 80ths arranged as surprise parties for elderly relatives. It doesn’t necessarily have to be one of these birthdays though, it can be any in between...there are many reasons a birthday can be special.

We are happy for you to come and add any light, removable decorative touches (such as balloons or perhaps a banner) to the room to personalise it for these events.

The room is equipped with audio/visual facilities in the form of a large screen television and a sound system which can be used as a public address system for the making of a speech or presentation in connection with the party. The sound system can also be used for the playing of light, background music. However, it is also fine if you want to bring in your own mobile disco and DJ for the occasion as long as volume levels and licensing hours are adhered to.

The room has also been used by families and friends who are getting together to see someone off who is heading abroad to live or work for a while or possibly even emigrating for good. Alternatively, it may be someone or a whole family is returning from overseas and a big re-union party is called for.
Also, with the proliferation social net-working web-sites such as facebook and friends re-united, many people are keeping or getting back in touch with old friends and acquaintances much more and this often requires a periodic get-together.

More often than not, these family events call for a special, celebratory cake of some sort or another. When it comes to a traditional wedding cake, we are unable to help directly, although we may be able to recommend someone. The same would also apply to any specially shaped and decorated cake, whether it be for a birthday or an anniversary. If, however, all that was required was a general, generic kind of cake, we would be happy to make something like a carrot, banana, chocolate or sponge cake and decorate it simply for you. This could be made in quantity if you wanted to have it as your pudding for the event or just enough for everyone to have a small taste in addition to dessert.
